In my current reading group (Panana) are currently reading a book named Beating The Wind

When I first heard of this book I suggested that the book (Beating The Wind) Had to be about working with wind. For example running through the tough wind. 

I eventually got confused at a point and I just wanted to give up, but when I actually listen closely to the story I understood the story more better. I recommend this book to students over 10+ because the book does have complex words and words that are long such as
Aerodynamics (The way how things and objects mover through the air)

Biomechanics (The study of body movements)
Friction drag (When air is compressed onto a surface which then spreads out)

This week we have been sent into the library to sustain a book so re can display and recite our book in the front of our class. There were many varieties of books to decide from. But the book I chose was perfect for me.

Title: Jinny & Cooper
Revenge of the stone witch

Written by: Tania Ingram

Definition of the book: For Jinny, it's not easy owning Cooper, her annoying talking , disappearing guinea pig with a love of biscuits and a talent for sniffing out trouble. Especially trouble of the witch kind.

Is the witch burying strange things outside Jinny's house? And why can't jinny bring herself to be friends with goody-two-shoes Katie, the new girl next door?

I haven't filly read this book yet but I really think that I am going to enjoy this book.

Prediction:
What I predict about this book is that there are many twists and turns. I predict that the guinea pig will cause loads of trouble but will still protect jinny. Raise your hand if you like to own a talking, disappearing, and teleporting guinea pig, because I know I don't.

Today in maori lessons we talked about past tense. This book was really fun to read, and it had a lot of actions that matches up to animals. Added to that we had to rewrite the book that we were currently reading. I is named I aha koe? I recommend this book to all primary kids because this book isn't really hard. But it will be a challenging book to start with. In this book it talks about a boy doing different actions like animals. If you would like to know more about this fascinating book read my work down below.

This is my book review about a book call Te Hokowhitu-a-Tū

Te Hokowhitu-a-Tū

This book means to me about Maori people sining up to fight in war to defend our country. It talks about when and what happened on that day of war against other countries. They sent over eight thousand people on a troop ship over sea. People outside of the ship were shouting out to them good luck or farewell.  A war cry went out: “E te iwi, whītiki! Whiti! Whiti e!” (“O people, prepare yourselves for battle! Spring up! Spring up!”) In those days, most Maori lived in rural villages near their marae. So the four Maori members of parliament helped to spread this war cry. Even though many Maori wanted to join up, only a few did. This quickly changed when the government said it would include a special group of soldiers called the Maori Contingent. The Maori Contingent became known as Te Hokowhitu-a-Tū. In February 1915, after training in Auckland, the soldiers were fare welled. their whānau kept on saying“Haere e tama ma,” Then, in July 1915, the men were sent to Gallipoli. The British high command was uncomfortable with the idea of native people fighting alongside Europeans. So at first, the Māori soldiers were kept busy digging trenches and building supply depots. But these men had joined the army to fight - but then when heaps of people died, it was then their chance to fight.

This is my book review, And I have been learning to summaries better and to be able to find the key phrases to create a summary for my book review.I have been learning to summaries a story and to have my responds in a new paragraph to interest my readers.

This week have been reading an article called Pacific Paradise. Written by Mary Campbell.

This book is mostly about the teachings of long-fin eels and short-fin eels. From this book I learnt the life cycle of the long-fin eel from a little egg until they die of exhaustion.

The first metamorphosis (transformation) is that they are little eggs, and when they get a little bit older they turn into a larva (an immature form of an insect or other animal) then the second transformation is a glass eel and as they get a bit more older they transform into a elver eel then as they get older they turn into an adult eel then it transforms into spawning eels.Here is an example of the long-fin eel life cycle.

This book also teaches us the location to find the eel and the types of food they eat and also their length of the fish and people say that the eels might go extinct this is because Hydro dams and other water reservoirs are blocking the migration(an animal's long journey to breed or to live somewhere else) of the elver upstream. Now that's a big deal for me.

My favorite bit on this book was when I got to learn the life cycle of the long-fin eel it was very interesting because I had never known that long-fin eels die of exhaustion after they have had their eggs. I learnt that long-fin eels go through a huge metamorphosis and recently I have learnt that metamorphosis means a transformation. I recommend this book to advanced readers because some words in this book is a little bit challenging. Hey, wait for a sec, I wonder what you’ve been reading?

My book review

My book review is about a fascinating girl named Britta. This book was set about in 1945, 1950. And this fascinating and amazing book is called Star of Deltora Shadows of the master.

There is this island with shadows lurking through the night haunting the and scaring everyone to move to a different island. Britta this a girl who always wanted to be like her dad ( a trader sailing over the seven seas) bringing precious things to a place called Del harbour. (that was where they lived)

And on the island there are shadows lurking through the night haunting the and scaring everyone to move to a different island. her dreams seemed safe until her dad had to go on a quest to find famous people tier ended in blood and horror. Now his shamed family is in hiding,and his ship (Star of Deltora) belongs to powerful Rosalyn fleet. But Britta’s power burns as fiercely as ever.  When she suddenly gets the chance to win back her future she has to take it-Whatever cost. She still doesn’t know that the shadows from afar are still haunting her island and are watching her every move.

The bit that surprised me was there was shadows haunting the island had shadows lurking through the night. That would be SCARY. My favorite bit was when her dad went sailing and bought this gem home.

BOOM BOOM WOW WATCH OUT FOR ENEMY FIRE!!!

This week I have been reading a non-fiction book called Harrys War. It is mainly about a man that went to war when he didnt want to. The boss commanded him to do loads of stuff. They trained as hard as they could they used sacks as an enemy and a sticks for spares. By the time it was war harry was afraid that he was going to die.

When the war was finished, they had won the war and they all started cheering and celebrating. guess who was the one not celebrating if you guessed it’s Harry then you are absolutely right. He stood there like a frozen statue and didn’t say a word, all he had in his mind was how would he get home.

A few months/weeks later, they were still trapped at England sling camp, they so wanted to go home and plus they were so bored the boss ordered them to carve a kiwi on the chalk hillside. They never returned Home

My favourite bit was when the soldiers won the war and they had an awesome celebration. What I learned that was that when you're in the army you have to follow orders.

My Book Review.

This week I have been reading a story named Heartbeat. It is a non fiction, the author is Ngapo. My story is mainly about a little girl and her papa are fighting against the council to not use the rauka for houses. The bit that surprised me was that Turnbull (he is a grumpy man that wants to chop the tree’s down) He wanted to turn them into shops and houses.

The part that I liked is when Wiremu and his friends tried to stop Turnbull from chopping the trees. I learnt that if we use to much nature for stuff We will brake Tane Mahuta’s heart.

My Book Review

Last week Whaea Lana read us a story called Sneeze N Coffin. The story is written by Paul Jennings. It is about a girl named Tracy and her dad named Ralph. Her dad was a undertaker and Tracy hated that her dad had that kind of job. Ralph wanted to be her partner but Tracy never wanted to be a undertaker.

My favorite part is when the girl is holding the giraffe's head with a rope and she couldn’t hold on much longer so she let it go and the face was just scraping on the ground and everyone just stared at them when they went passed.
