The Disappearing Eel.

Intro
Long, silky, and shiney, what beautiful words. Those three words can describe the beautiful, delightful longfin eel. Did you  know that these long-fin eels might just become extinct? So, i'm going to explain how can we prevent the longfin eels from being extinct.
Habitat Lost
Firstly i’ll be talking about habitat lost, because their rivers are nearly all being drained. With no water they won’t be able to make it to the ocean to spawn. Their homes are being drained by farmers and they are making their rivers dirty, warm, and polluted. Also there are some rivers that are now swampy and muddy. Would you like it if eels were not able to spawn? They could all die and we would have no more  eels that can exist in this world. Farmers uses the river for growing crops. They supply water to help plants to grow.

Raised culverts
Now i’ll demonstrate some things about raised culverts that can kill eeIs. Now I know that culverts help us in life, but hold your horses, when it comes down to eels it is hard for them to make it to the otherside. For example If a short-fin was trying to get up into the culvert it won’t be able to make it to the otherside because the water is so powerful that it can push it back down. How disturbing is that? How would they be able to spawn(have babies) if that is holding them back. We need to bring a stop.
Dams
Now I’ll explain about dams, dams also helps us in life but as I already stated, when it comes down to a eel it has to struggle to get to the other side. For example if an eel was trying to get to the other side they won’t be able to get there because there is a humongous wall blocking them from getting to the ocean and with that big wall in the way they won’t be able to spawn. Also if an eel was trying to get back from spawning/migrating they would first have to go through and intake (heaps of pipes) then if they make it through there they would have to go through a turbine which can slice them into pieces. Isn’t that gross and disturbing.
How can we Help?
It’ll be great if we could at least add a pipe through the dam for just the eels only. And also with the raised culverts they  could add a hole for just eels only.
Summary
All of this evidence points to the fact that, rivers, raised culverts and dams help us in life but it actually can make eels just go extinct so, How can we prevent eels from becoming extinct. Comment down below and tell me some other things that can make eels extinct.

I have been learning to write an explanation writing.
I was trying to predict people into not making eels extinct by not doing things that can kill them.

Past, Present, Future.

We have been learning to understand the maori words I, E, Ka.
I, Means past tense
E, Means in the present
Ka, Means in the future.
What I found challenging was trying to extend the sentence more to make the word more interesting.
What I found easy was trying to find the correct word for the sentence.

Animals, Animals, Animals

I have been learning to classify animals into groups.
Eg. Amphibians, reptiles insects and more groups can classify animals.

What I found easy was to learn about these fascinating creatures.
What I found challenging was how to put  the facts into our own words.

The Annual Athletics

On Thursday we went to Kaikohe East school to compete at the Inteschool Athletics. There were a lot of schools competing. The schools were Okaihau Primary, Ohaewai school,East school, West school, Kaikohe Christian and of course Tautoro School. We were split up  into groups. The groups were Year 5 group, Year 6 group and there was a year 7&8 group. The year 5s went away with the teacher to do high jump and the year 7&8s went with the year 6s to do shot put.
My Teacher was proud of us to take that risk of competing at the Inter school Athletics. I was also proud of myself because I versed up against the best but I tried my best to complete the activity. I really enjoyed that day...

Have you ever made something and you had major problems well, this week we have and if you have look down below.

This week me and a group have been working all week to create a D.L.O or Digital Learning Object. We have had huge problems but we still got through it. We have been learning to create a D.L.O to explain what are suffixes in a movie or video. Hope you enjoy...

My next learning steps are to take risks in my movie and to shoot my shots.

Friday 11 November 2016

Have you ever wanted to learn new stratigies? Because if you do then look down below and look and my work.

This week I have doing a some maths that we call strategy work. There is heaps of math questions that can tease our minds. What I found challenging was trying to find a strategy for the right question. My next learning steps are to try and find a strategy more faster.

Is this a Pacific Paradise or not? Read down below and see what you think.

This is my book review, And I have been learning to summaries better and to be able to find the key phrases to create a summary for my book review.
I have been learning to summaries a story and to have my responds in a new paragraph to interest my readers.

This week have been reading an article called Pacific Paradise. Written by Mary Campbell.

This book is mostly about the teachings of long-fin eels and short-fin eels. From this book I learnt the life cycle of the long-fin eel from a little egg until they die of exhaustion. Image result for Pacific paradise mary campbell

The first metamorphosis (transformation) is that they are little eggs, and when they get a little bit older they turn into a larva (an immature form of an insect or other animal) then the second transformation is a glass eel and as they get a bit more older they transform into a elver eel then as they get older they turn into an adult eel then it transforms into spawning eels.
Here is an example of the long-fin eel life cycle.

This book also teaches us the location to find the eel and the types of food they eat and also their length of the fish and people say that the eels might go extinct this is because Hydro dams and other water reservoirs are blocking the migration(an animal's long journey to breed or to live somewhere else) of the elver upstream. Now that's a big deal for me.

My favorite bit on this book was when I got to learn the life cycle of the long-fin eel it was very interesting because I had never known that long-fin eels die of exhaustion after they have had their eggs. I learnt that long-fin eels go through a huge metamorphosis and recently I have learnt that metamorphosis means a transformation. I recommend this book to advanced readers because some words in this book is a little bit challenging. Hey, wait for a sec, I wonder what you’ve been reading?

Coo, man, coo.

This is my recount. I hope to get good advice from you so I can improve in my writing.

This week I was learning to develop independence in planning for my writing. The most successful I achieved in my writing was to try and use figurative language such as simile, hyperbole, pun or metaphor, and alliteration.

  • Blue-Similes
  • Yellow-sentences starting with an adverb
  • green-alliteration
  • pink-metaphor

A sight of beauty.

With a breeze going through the window, and a glint of sunlight shining through the window on a Saturday afternoon in Waima I sat broadly in the room. My mind was as tired as a sloth. Honestly, I thought that this day would be boring, so I wondered to myself “what should I do?” And then I heard a noise from outside, it sounded like a flap of a wing, and some tweeting coming from outside. I was like a lion hunting for prey. I Silently Sneaked out onto the deck, What could it be? What will happen? I thought to myself then when I made it to the deck,, It was a terrifying, scary, most horrible... pigeon! The pigeon was as beautiful as a rose. It had beautiful, pure green feathers and glorious purple feathers on its wing.I was a fizzy can ready to burst with excitement. That pigeon was such a beautiful sight. Occasionally I see pigeons, but I’ve never seen them that close.

By the time the pigeon flew up on the roof I immediately told Letisha to come here and all I could possibly want her to do was to be quiet. When I heard footsteps coming down from the lounge. I possibly thought that it would had been Letisha but it was my little baby sister. Then you Wouldn’t believe what my Sister did, she came right through the door stamping her feet. She was bigfoot. I wish she was locked up in the room for a year at least. The pigeon flew away faster than lightning. I don't like my sister because she’s loud but I do like my brother because he likes looking at the clouds. So I decided to bring him outside to look at this exquisite bird. Absolutely beautiful, its wings was spread out wide with its wings looking down on us, It soared through the air like an Eagle.

Recently after that I Zoomed!! inside for some cake made by Letisha, It was DELICIOUS, so me and Letisha decided if we should go give a piece of her delicious cake to the pigeon. We searched for the bird around the whole front yard, and we couldn’t find the pigeon. I thought that it would had taken us days to find it but then we remembered that we just checked in the front yard, so why shouldn’t we check in the backyard, so we went to check the back yard. And there it was, peking its beak into the ground. Letisha Threw one piece of her delicious cake and I thought that the pigeon would had eaten it but I thought wrong it actually ignored her nice cake. So me and my cousins went back inside because we didn’t want to disturb it from eating.

That day was so great even though I thought that it would be boring but however. I could never imagine it to be more better. I was so happy to see the sight of a pigeon.

THE END

My next steps are to use more mood/feeling in my story to make my story more interesting.
I know I learnt How to begin a sentence with an adverb because in my story I used an adverb at the begining of my story.

The Thief.

This week we were making a movie to send a message out to people.
We will be having a movie competition in week 8. Here are some examples of what other schools have created. https://sites.google.com/a/ptengland.school.nz/film-festival-2011/view-films/2015-films

Ni hao. Come and watch my chinese inquiry.

This term we have been focusing about facts about china.  Focus question:How can we teach people basic mandarin?

What I found hard:what I found hard was to try to find some good strategies for the questions and how to pronounce the word properly.
What I found easy:what I found easy was to try to paint each others faces because I really like to do art.

Wednesday 21 September 2016

Would you like to see what I have achieved? well have a look at my goals.

Haere mai and watch my story about kapa haka.

9:40, Thursday 15th september 2016, We hopped off of the bus ready for our grand performance at Northland College. I thought that I would stay calm through the whole performance and think that there was  not going to be that much people, and then did I hear “we’re on now come on, come on, all of your guys parents are going to be watching” Then I started to panic.

We sneaked onto the stage as quietly as the thin air, I started to breath heavily as the curtains started to open “I'm so, so nervous” I thought to myself. One half of my body was thinking to stand there and do nothing and the other half was saying “snap over it get over it and do your best and be proud that you're doing this. As the curtains opened I smiled and was trying to be happy for doing this. “Hope, ki raro, whakapiri” harmony yelled the commands. She was a chief. Our first song that we sang was Te Matua. After that beautiful song I felt nice and calm because I was use to be singing in front of a huge crowd.

As soon as we were ready to leave the stage I heard a voice coming from the back of my head, so guess what I done? I turned around to see what it was and guess what? It was an old koro that was saying a mihi to us, it was about her thanking us and it reminds her of the olden days and she was very thankful for us and then when she took her seat another nan stood up and released a mihi and guess who it was? Nana Winie, her mihi was beautiful. We were so blessed for the honors for getting a remarkable mihi from our nannies, so we returned something back to her, a himene, which was Te pou.
At the end of the performance people were crying a river, I don't know why it was so sad but I also wanted to cry but I fought over the tears and shun my smile.

I loved every single moment of that day, I’ll never make that memory go old in my head.

My Task: To write a plan that focuses on one or to features of the culture festival. And what was special for myself.

What I found hard was to try and plan what I was writing about becaused to list everthing about that day but I was only allowed to have two paragraphs so I got the two most special things and put them in my story.
What I found easy was to write down the special things that I liked at the culture festival.

My next steps are to try and understand the organisation of the story and at least to try get 1 or 2 special things about the day.

Kia ora. Have you ever been to MT Everest? well I have.

We have be learning to understand what myself, you, and them is in Te reo Maori and we also tried to say where we are located, For example ki waho- outside, Ki runga-on top, ki roto-inside and more. We also tried to try to extend our e... ana sentences.

For example:
(Mate)- E aha ana koe?/What are you doing?
(Myself)-E peke ana ahau ki waho i te ruma- I am jumping outside of the classroom

Chase your dreams.......

Today Matua Ray Bishop came to the school. He came to our school to help us to try and achieve our dreams and to give Duffy books out to us. Two things that I learnt from him is to never give up on your dream and try your best or work hard to try and achieve your dream. My dream job is to be a I.T.C computer analyst or a Lawyer.

Tuesday 30 August 2016

Have you ever used Kizao? Because if you haven't then look at example of a movie made from Kizoa.

What I found fun was making the video because I got to find out new things to use Kizoa.  What my next steps are is to try my best to get to level 12-13. Why they stopped the ancient Olympics is because it was too old.

Friday 26 August 2016

Wow, If you like to read fascinating books check this out.

My book review

My book review is about a fascinating girl named Britta. This book was set about in 1945, 1950. And this fascinating and amazing book is called Star of Deltora Shadows of the master.

There is this island with shadows lurking through the night haunting the and scaring everyone to move to a different island. Britta this a girl who always wanted to be like her dad ( a trader sailing over the seven seas) bringing precious things to a place called Del harbour. (that was where they lived)
And on the island there are shadows lurking through the night haunting the and scaring everyone to move to a different island. her dreams seemed safe until her dad had to go on a quest to find famous people tier ended in blood and horror. Now his shamed family is in hiding, and his ship (Star of Deltora) belongs to powerful Rosalyn fleet. But Britta’s power burns as fiercely as ever.  When she suddenly gets the chance to win back her future she has to take it-Whatever cost. She still doesn’t know that the shadows from afar are still haunting her island and are watching her every move.

The bit that surprised me was there was shadows haunting the island had shadows lurking through the night. That would be SCARY. My favorite bit was when her dad went sailing and bought this gem home.

Now here is a question for you
What are you reading in your class?

Friday 5 August 2016

Do you have B.O ohhh I mean B.Y.O school at your school?

This is mine and Sweyde's first persuasive writing. Read it and comment if I persuaded you.

Lets be a B.Y.O school.

I think that at this school we should be a BYO school (bring your own device). There are some people missing out because whanau cannot afford to pay the payment of having a chromebook Are you with me?  Do you want your child/children to get more cleverer instead of getting more dumber and if your child was badly hurt for example if your child has broken their leg then they can call you. Now this is a big deal for me, BUT, hold your horses we can do something about this. Just read on.

My first reason is we can do more work. For example if your work hasn’t been done you always have to do line’s. Now I don't like to hear that, what I want to hear is that every day pupils are finished their work because they finished their work at home. We can use our phone/ipad and more to do our homework at home.PLUS, we can also go on class sites, class blogs and more at home. In other words pupils can finish some work at home.

The other reason why we should be BYO  is everyone can do it. In other words no one will miss out. If you had an old laptop at home in the corner rusting up but it still works, you can bring it to school it doesn’t matter how it looks like it's about doing more learning and did you know that there is some whanau who have to pay for four kids and do you know how much that coast’s

In summary, I believe we should bring devices to school. I think this because we can learn things faster and easier. Isn’t that what you want?

Our next steps are:
To be independent at using the correct strucutre for persuasive. Have well organised paragraphs with lead sentences and supporting detail.
We will also learn about emotive words and phrases and how to use them to support our argument.
Learn how to use apostrophe to show ownership, not for plurals

Symmetry DLO

This is my first animation made using slides and by using screencastify. The things I found easy was how you had to move the pictures and how to make them talk. What I try to improve next time is to set more examples of the learning . I enjoyed saying the voice overs of the characters. I hope you enjoy the video

Friday 1 July 2016

Look at what I achieved and what im working at, because maybe what I'm trying to learn you might learn it too.

WOW I didn't know that I knew that much Te reo...

Want to know colors in Maori? watch this video and learn it yourself.

Want to know examples of figurative language? Well... You've come to the right place. Look at my writing.

I am learning to add figurative language for my work and synonyms for said that match my mood

8:15, Saturday the 18th of June 2016. It was a lonely morning, with barely anyone driving passed the house. It felt like I was floating in space cause I hardly had anyone to talk to. (Most of them were sleeping). As I heard the people playing the music next door I thought to myself, “where the heck are my parents?” Cause I had no Idea where they were, and then I remembered that my dad just got paid, so I was sure that they went to the shop.

ROOOOOM ROOM “Did you hear that?” I quivered, I ran out to the front door to see what it was. All I saw were, people holding pies and eating them right in front of my face! and I was sure that it was my mum and dad because it was a black subaru. I WAS ANGRY, BECAUSE I DIDN’T HAVE A SINGLE INCH OF A PIE, UNTIL, I got in the car and my dad  exclaimed that we were going to James’s House. I was so thrilled to go.

“WAAA WAA WAA,” My sister nearly cried all the way to the house, Finally she stopped(and she stopped right on time because…We arrived at the house) “Hi” my aunty shouted. “Wow she can not handle it when we arrived” I thought to myself. We walked inside to watch tv, Is there anything else we can do.

Than watch tv, “you can clean up ”Clean up? I wanted to pull my hair out. The fizzies started calling out to me from the fridge “Come and drink me, come and drink me” they lightly spoke to me in my head so I told my mum that I was going to the fridge to get a big burst of a drink. My mouth was dry as the dessert when I was walking to the refreshing drink.
With the sun smiling down to the green green grass and with the water of the the sink with sparkling sparkles shining onto my face. Then I finally got to my destination, THE FRIDGE. “AHHHH” I wanted to tip the whole bottle on my face.

The day was getting late and the sun was going down. Sparking star shimmering starting to come up. All the adults were in the shed and all the kids up stairs. “HAHAHA” We were watching a hilarious movie. “Whats that thumping up stairs?” my mum questioned with a mysterious face. She walked up stairs to see what was happening, but we were just pretending that we were asleep, like little pigs in a puddle of mud snoring their snort’s off. While we were PRETENDING to sleep I literally went to sleep.

That day was one of my best weekend I have had. I will never forget that wonderful, awesome day. I learnt that you should never be impatient.

Want to see a painting done by a international artist and pupils from Tautoro school?

Heaven
  • The water to me represents the movement of life and all the challenges we will face.
  • The outline of the sea represents my maunga tautoro me tauanii
  • What I want for other people to see what the sky is about the limit like birds can fly anywhere they want and it also guides you.
  • The color red and black and white represents the culture of maori and in the olden days they painted so when they paint that is when they protect the wood.
  • The red also protects the wood that we painted on.
  • When they row the waka all together they get currents in the water and those currents are the things we face in life.
Amira
  • Today eight students and whaea theresa painted a mural.
  • The water makes you feel like what you are going through in life.
  • The Sky goes around whole world.

tumanako
The sky represents the whole world to feel free to do anything in life.
The spirals in the water represents the challenges that you will face in life.
The 12 waka hoe represent our school values. We made sure that all the hoe were facing the same way so that everyone rows in the same direction and so that we get past things together.
The colour red is one of the important colours on our painting because it protects the wood and because it is the natural maori colours the we use today.
